Athletics and Recreation Centre Name Announced

Earlier this year the Algonquin Students’ Association (SA) Board of Directors passed a unanimous motion for the building’s name.

The Jack Doyle Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC), first discussed by the SA 10 years ago, will open on Algonquin College’s Ottawa campus in the Fall of 2021 and will feature multiple gymnasiums for varsity home games, recreation, and events, rock-climbing and bouldering walls, a walking and running track, abundant fitness areas with new equipment, bowling lanes, a golf simulator, a new licensed restaurant, and much more.

“The SA has done many unexpected things under Jack’s mentorship and with his help. The Jack Doyle Athletics and Recreation Centre is in a league of its own – and so is Jack,” said SA President Emily Ferguson. “I want to thank Jack for his years of leadership, service to students, and his commitment to student success.”

Algonquin College President and CEO Claude Brulé joined Ferguson for the announcement, saying, “I was pleased to learn that the SA Board of Directors chose to name this impressive student-owned facility after Jack. He has dedicated his entire career to enhancing the student experience at Algonquin College.”
