About Shawna

Shawna is a compassionate and down-to-earth student leader who brings a strong sense of community and service to her role as the Board Member from Pembroke. Originally from Perth, Ontario, she was motivated to join the Board while searching for new leadership opportunities after her time in the Canadian Armed Forces. Her focus is on helping students feel heard, supported and empowered to succeed.

Known among friends for “needing supervision at all times,” Shawna combines humour with a deeply caring personality. She hopes to be remembered simply for being kind and believes strongly in working together to break down barriers that can impact student success. She wants students to know their voices matter and that she is always willing to listen and advocate on their behalf.

Outside of academics and student leadership, Shawna enjoys gardening, spending time outdoors and relaxing at the waterfront patio overlooking the river. She also has an unexpected talent for juggling and a soft spot for animals, particularly sloths. Whether she’s bringing positive energy to campus, supporting fellow students or making people laugh with her quick sense of humour, Shawna values connection, kindness and community above all else.
