Experience art like never before with a LIVE SPEED PAINTING in the Student Commons featuring Allan André, Ottawa’s award-winning speed painter and founding member of the Ottawa Black Artist Collective (OBAK).Watch bold colours, movement, and music come together as a powerful piece of art is created right before your eyes. This electrifying performance celebrates Black creativity, culture, and expression and is the perfect way to kick off Black History Month.Come through. Stay inspired. Watch art come to life.

During the event, attendees can take part in a live silent auction for the finished artwork. Bidding will take place on-site, with all proceeds going to the SA Food Cupboard, to support students in need. It’s a chance to take home a one-of-a-kind piece while giving back to the campus community.

About the Artist

Allan André is a Canadian multi-disciplinary artist of Haitian descent based in Ottawa, known for his murals and live painting. He won Ottawa’s regional Art Battle Canada speed painting competitions in 2014, 2016, and 2019, followed by national titles in 2016, 2019, and 2022.

He is also a founding member of the Ottawa Black Artist Collective (OBAK), which supports Black voices in Ottawa’s arts community.André’s philosophy is that life itself is art. He states, “We live in a collective masterpiece” and believes “We all are artists who leave our signature on the canvas we call the human experience by challenging our own spheres of influence in a way that will ripple through future generations.”

Parking

Paid parking is in effect at all times. Red Parking Lot 8 is the closest possible lot to our venue. Parking is a $6.00 flat rate on weekends and after 5:00pm on weekdays in Lots 8, 9, 10 and 12. See Algonquin College Parking Services for the parking map.
