Wolves play a significant role in the culture and stories of the Algonquin People. Algonquin College’s campuses are located on the traditional, unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Anishinàbe Algonquin People. For local Indigenous communities, the wolf is a spiritual guide and teacher. Wolves represent strength, courage, unity, community, loyalty, wisdom, family, and teamwork.
The animal represents our student athletes, but the Algonquin Wolves’ identity extends far beyond. It embodies a shared sense of belonging, pride, and connection for all students, alumni, and employees. The entire Algonquin College community is Part of the Pack.

What does it mean to be Algonquin Wolves? Learn about the animal’s significant meaning to local Indigenous communities with Anita Tenasco, a proud member of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, the largest Algonquin Nation in Canada, and an elected member of Kitigan Zibi’s Band Council.
