SA Board of Directors Announcement – General Manager & CEO

Published: April 17, 2023

The Algonquin Students’ Association Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Mr. Ben Dinh has been selected as our new General Manager and CEO, effective June 1, 2023.

Ben began his career at the college more than 14 years ago and has held roles with increasing responsibility at Algonquin College and the SA. First as a student and part-time staff, then as a Resident Advisor before joining the SA in 2010 as our Creative Services Coordinator. After several roles with Algonquin College, including Manager, Alumni Engagement, Ben returned to the SA in 2020 as Senior Manager, Communications and Marketing. Somehow, throughout this time, Ben was also a Professor in the Event Management program at Algonquin College for 26 consecutive semesters and volunteered as a mentor to students.

Since returning to the SA in his latest role, Ben has seen a team of six staff members grow into a team of 16 that spans two departments. In a time of rapid growth and transition, Ben stepped up to take on additional responsibilities as the SA’s Privacy Officer and acting Senior Manager, Student Life.

With Ben’s support and keen attention to detail, the SA and the Board have been featured prominently on social media. We have seen more engagement with our membership than ever before, including more than 3000 responses to our student survey in 2022. Ben was instrumental in ensuring the Board had a prominent role when he led the planning of the grand opening of the Jack Doyle Athletics and Recreation Centre last year.

With a Master of Arts Degree in Tourism Management from Royal Roads University, a Graduate Certificate in Event Management from Algonquin College, a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Communication from the University of Ottawa, and experience in governance with the Algonquin College Board of Governors, Foundation Board of Directors, and the SA Board of Directors, Ben possesses a significant depth of relevant knowledge and experience.

Most importantly, Ben loves people. He is a teacher, a relationship builder, a bridge builder, and a no-nonsense problem solver. Ben is a visionary, and he leads with a polite, steady, quiet confidence, completed by his integrity and strength of character. The Board knows Ben is the right choice to support future Boards of Directors as they steer the SA into the future.

Please join me in congratulating Ben, and wishing him well in his new role.

Gwyneth Jones,
Vice-President, Algonquin Students’ Association
